In the beginning, there was only Chaos—a yawning void of formless darkness. From this primordial emptiness emerged the first beings: Gaia, the Earth; Tartarus, the Abyss; and Eros, the force of creation. Gaia gave birth to Uranus, the Sky, who became her consort.
